How dare you! Thunberg denies public order offence following UK protest

Climate activist Greta Thunberg has denied disturbing public order after last month’s protests in central London, reports RTE.

The 20-year-old Swede was arrested on October 17 during a demonstration near the Intercontinental Hotel in Mayfair during a meeting of oil executives as part of the Energy Intelligence Forum.

She and four London Fossil Free protesters pleaded not guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court this morning to breaching the Public Order Act by blocking the entrance to the hotel, reports RTE.

Ms Thunberg confirmed her name and date of birth, but her Stockholm address was not read in court due to concerns about the charges against her.

The protesters were granted unconditional bail ahead of a hearing at the City of London Magistrates’ Court on February 1, 2024.

Police liaison officers were present in the court.

Five others accused of involvement in the protests will appear in court today.

Fossil Free London is a campaign against the use of fossil fuels by major oil and gas companies, reports RTE.
