HSE to spend €60,000 researching the effects of abortion on women

It has been revealed that the HSE will spend as much as €60,000, without VAT, on a research study documenting the experiences of women who aborted their babies and accessed unplanned pregnancy support.

The introduction of the Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy Act 2018 on the 1st of January this year has since prompted the HSE to commission such as a study to “develop an in-depth understanding of the experiences of women who have accessed unplanned pregnancy support services and abortion services”.

The study is tasked with garnering an in depth understanding of the experiences of women who have accessed these services from medical professionals and account for women of all ages and different backgrounds.

HSE’s Sexual Health & Crisis Pregnancy Programme (SHCPP) has said they may also interview women who attempted to but were not permitted to access abortion services.

It has been documented that women who have abortions are more prone to depression, self-harm, suicide and substance abuse.

Since abortion on demand up the 12 weeks was legalised in Ireland many have pushed for these limits to extended with some demanding abortion on demand at any time.
