Over 90,000 people sign petition supporting GP under review after he asked Muslim woman to remove her veil during a consultation

Over 90,000 people have signed a petition supporting a British doctor after he came under review for asking a Muslim woman to remove her veil.

According to The Daily Mail newspaper, Dr Keith Wolverson, 52, could lose his job after he asked the woman to remove the veil during a consultation in June last year.

It is understood Wolverson has come under review from the UK’s General Medical Council, after a complaint was made by the woman’s husband.

The Daily Mail say Dr Wolverson, a GP at Stoke University Hospital, could potentially lose his job for discrimination.

It is understood that Wolverson asked the woman to remove her veil in order for him to hear her more clearly in order to diagnose her young daughter.

Although the woman willingly removed the veil without any complaints, the doctor found himself under review after her husband later returned to the hospital to make a formal complaint.

However despite uncertainty surrounding his career, Dr Wolverson has been given the backing from the British public as over 90,000 people signed a petition on change.org calling for his job to be saved.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Dr Wolverson said he has been bowled over by the support from the British public, before stating that he is in no way racist.

He added that he will fight the case until the bitter end.
