The HSE’s Chief Clinical Officer Dr Colm Henry has said that current Covid-19 virus transmission level is far too high to reopen schools.
Speaking on RTE’s Morning Ireland programme, Dr Henry said that transmission is ten times higher than they it was at the beginning of December.
He told the programme that case numbers must come way down before we consider the reopening of schools.
Dr Henry added that it was tragic that we are talking about school closures once again, but given what we learned about the virus from the first wave, we need to reduce to much lower levels before we can add any additional risk to mixing of crowds at school settings.
