Hypocritical Mary Lou calls on Varadkar to remove Justice Minister from office

Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou Macdonald accused Justice Minister Helen McEntee of failing to fulfil her duties and demanded the Prime Minister remove her from the office reports RTE.

Speaking in the Dáil, Deputy Macdonald said the minister and the Garda commissioner had “lost control” of Dublin city centre last Thursday and he had “zero confidence” in their ability to deal with the matter.

The Dublin Central MP said for years citizens and businesses had been saying there were too few gardai on the capital’s streets, but the government “didn’t listen”.

She maintained that Dublin city center “hasn’t been safe for some time” due to visible trade, drug use and eroding police numbers due to roaming gangs, adding that Minister McEntee was “not the person to restore public confidence,” reports RTE.

In response, Leo Varadkar said he had “full confidence” in the police, its leadership and the justice minister.

Mr Varadkar said the government would provide more officers, better equipment and more prisons.

He said the work was already “underway” and will be “accelerated.”
