We were contacted this week by a reader who relayed his experience in his local cafe.
The man, let’s call him Martin, is fully vaccinated, entered his local coffee shop and sat at a table. On entering, he indicated to the cafe
staff member that he was feeling faint and needed a moment to come around before placing an order.
The cafe staff member, remaining behind the counter, asked for Martin’s Covid Pass. Martin indicated again that he needed a moment to recover.
At this point, the cafe staff member left the counter and came over to Martin’s table.
Martin needed more time and told the cafe staff member that his vaccination cert is on his phone. Martin then tried and failed to find the Covid pass on the phone as he was still weak. At this point, the cafe staff member (to the best of his recollection) told Martin; “You have to leave. THEY are coming down hard on us” and then proceeded to escort Martin out of the Cafe.
Martin, who had sought respite at the cafe, did manage to make it home safe but was shaken by his experience. Martin asks “What has happened to Ireland, the way I was treated was heartless. I’m fully vaccinated but was treated like a leper in my own local cafe. Now I know what it feels like to be an unvaccinated person. This discrimination must stop. The vaccinated must stop complying with these Covid Passports for the sake of our freedoms”.
