A staff at a firm in Illinois went on a shooting spree after receiving notice of the termination of his employment, killing five co-workers and injuring a number of responding police officers before being shot dead himself.
The perpetrator was identified as 45-year-old Gary Martin. It is understood that Martin had worked at the Henry Pratt factory in the town of Aurora, Illinois, for almost 15 years at the time of the incident.
The reasons for Martin’s dismissal are not immediately clear.
There have been 37 mass shooting events in the United States so far this year.
