Independent review to be conducted into the installing of water meters by Irish Water

The Government have confirmed that the installation of water meters across the country will be reviewed as part of the deal that saw the much hated charges suspended.

It is understood there will be an independent review conducted as the company will look to make a number of amendments in order to recuperate funds that will be lost during the suspension of charges.

The report which will review the massive spending of €500m by the utility. It is currently estimated that approximately 820,000 of 1.05 million meters have been installed and Irish Water say that metering has saved up to 32 million litres of water per day.

The details have already been prepared in a document which will be given to the new Minister for Housing Simon Coveney.

The document also states that significant funding and crucial decisions will have to be made early in order to ensure Irish Water remains on target to meet a number of goals.

Which include eliminating water contamination, lifting boil water notices, reducing leaks and ending the discharge of untreated water at 44 locations, while also increasing water and wastewater capacity, particularly in Dublin.
