Industrial action looms at University Hospital Galway

The chronic overcrowding issue at Galway University Hospital’s Emergency Department has prompted nurses there to vote unanimously in favor of industrial action.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives’ Organisation (INMO), 100% of those balloted voted in favour of a work to rule action starting on Tuesday, February 3, 2015.

On this basis, nurses will not perform any administrative, clerical or non-clinical tasks. Instead, they will concentrate on providing clinical care to patients within their department.

According to sources, this action is being taken over the “excessive overcrowding, limited space, lack of beds and dangerously low staffing levels.’
