Infamous Dáil printer hits the limelight again, after it emerged that as many as 283,000 orders were dumped because of non-collection by politicians

The infamous Dáil printer is the gift of shameless extravagance that keeps on giving, after it emerged that as many as 283,000 orders were dumped because no one bothered to collect them, according to the Irish Mirror.

Not only has the device become the most expensive taxpayer-funded printer anywhere in the known world, with a whopping €1.2m associated with it, but now it seems like it was never used that much anyway.

Politicians can avail of a free (for them, we pay for it) printing service, so they can order as much or as little as they see fit. Only in many cases, orders seem to get forgotten, just like election promises.

And here’s the kicker: The current estimation refers to ‘consumables only’, which means that electricity, labour, and other ancillary costs have yet to be added.
