The Insurance company Aviva have announced that they are set to introduce an increase to current policy holders. It is understood that increase will add between 5.5% to 10% to current premiums.

The company claim the rise in premiums is due to the recent surge of people taking out new health insurance policies. The company say the move will counter the new government levy for those aged over 35. Aviva say  the increase comes as a result  of an ageing customer base and a rise in claims over the past year. The company say the increase will come into effect in July. It is understood that the rise in premiums will affect more than 100 different plans.

It is believed some health insurance plans will rise between €200 and €470 a year for some families.
