According to officials, a young kid killed two people at a school in Wisconsin before the suspect was discovered dead at the scene of the most recent massacre to wreak havoc on a US campus, reports RTE.
Police stated children were among those killed and injured in the shooting, which occurred in Madison, the state capital, and that at least six other people were injured.
Police first said that the shooting had killed five persons, however they subsequently claimed it was untrue, reports RTE.
According to the Madison Police Department, the incident happened at Abundant Life Christian School, a private school that educates about 400 pupils from kindergarten to senior year.
At least three individuals were murdered in the event, including the accused gunman, who was only identified as a young student at the school, according to a written statement from the police department, reports RTE.
When police arrived, they discovered the gunman dead inside the school.
According to a written statement from the police, at least six individuals were taken from the site to nearby hospitals.
According to Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes, the incident happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. local time.
“Today is a sad, sad day, not only for Madison, but for our entire country, where yet another police chief is doing a press conference to speak about violence in our community,” Mr Barnes told reporters, reports RTE.
He added: “Every child, every person in that building, is a victim, and will be a victim forever. These types of trauma don’t just go away,” reports RTE.
