Irish Rail have confirmed that an investigation is underway after an Indian man and his family were allegedly racially abused on board one of their trains over the weekend.
According to The Irish Mirror newspaper, the investigation comes after the man and his parents were allegedly verbally abused by a fellow passenger whilst travelling from Belfast to Dublin.
The Irish Mirror say the man and his parents were allegedly subjected to the abuse by a fellow passenger who got on the train in Dundalk.
It is alleged that the family were abused by the fellow passenger who shouted insults about their skin colour and their nationality.
Irish Rail say that they have been made aware of the incident and are currently assisting GardaĆ with their investigations.
