
GardaĆ are investigating the death of a man in his 30s who died after swimming across the River Liffey in Dublin city centre, following what is understood to have been an alleged assault.
The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning near the quays in Dublin city, reports Breaking News.
The man entered the river and swam across following the alleged assault. He was subsequently found unresponsive and emergency services were called to the scene.
He was pronounced dead a short time later. The scene was preserved and a technical examination was carried out, reports Breaking News.
GardaĆ have confirmed that a post-mortem examination is to take place and that a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Investigations into the full circumstances surrounding both the alleged assault and the man’s death remain ongoing. GardaĆ are appealing to anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning and who may have seen anything, or who has camera footage including CCTV or dashcam, to contact their local garda station or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, reports Breaking News.
