Amid mounting concerns in Washington about keeping American data out of China’s hands, US President Joe Biden sponsored legislation that might result in the popular video-sharing app TikTok being banned in the country, reports Breaking News.
The US House Energy and Commerce Committee overwhelmingly approved a bill on Thursday that requires China’s ByteDance to sell its TikTok shares or risk a possible US ban.
The measure has the backing of House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, who has stated that a full House vote on it will shortly take place, reports Breaking News.
When reporters questioned Mr. Biden on the measure, he responded, “If they pass it, I’ll sign it.”
The presumptive Republican nominee, former president Donald Trump, stated in a post on Truth Social on Thursday that he was against the ban because it would benefit Facebook, a competitor social media network, reports Breaking News.
