The “wonderful little angel” who served as the model for the Late Late Toy Show appeal, Saoírse Ruane, is being honoured as the “Saint of Kiltullagh” at her burial ceremony this afternoon, reports RTE.

When the funeral cortège, headed by two garda motorcycle outriders, arrived in Kiltullagh, County Galway, dozens of people waited outside the church.

The 12-year-old Saoírse passed away on Tuesday after a protracted illness, and the little church was packed with mourners for his burial service.

Outside the church, a guard of honour was created by students from Kiltullagh National School, which Saoírse had attended, as well as members of the local GAA and sports teams, reports RTE.

Fr Declan McInerney opened the mass by extending a warm greeting to the large crowd that gathered both inside and outside the church to bid adieu to Saoírse, “the wonderful little angel that she was, and now our saint of Kiltullagh,” reports RTE.

Additionally, Fr. McInerney greeted Colonel Stephen Howard, President Michael D. Higgins’s Aide-de-Camp, and said how delighted they were to have him here on the President’s behalf.

He remarked that Saoírse’s family is very comforted by it. May Saoírse rest in peace.
