The State of California has increased vaccination requirements for a wide variety of residents and issued orders that require all health care workers to be fully vaccinated by September 30th.
The State is also requiring that hospitals verify that all visitors are fully vaccinated or make them show proof of a recent negative test.
The order on health care workers goes beyond what the State announced last week when all health care workers are required to show proof of vaccination or get tested at least once a week. Now most health care workers will not be able to test as an alternative to vaccination. California is the first State to take this step, according to health officials. There are approximately 2 million healthcare workers in California.
The health worker vaccination mandate applies to people who work in hospitals, nursing homes, doctors’ offices and clinics, dialysis centres, hospices, and most other health care facilities. Workers with a religious or medical exception must be tested twice a week in intensive and long-term care facilities and once a week in other health facilities.
