In a must win game a spirited Ireland just came up short as they were denied automatic qualification to next year’s finals following a draw with Denmark.
Ireland who put in a performance that has been one of their best in the qualification campaign were denied as Braithwaite’s 73rd minute strike put Ireland behind leaving a mountain to climb.
Mick McCarthy’s men who needed two goals were given late hope as Matt Doherty headed home an 85th minute equaliser.
Ireland who dominated the game throughout pushed hard for a winner late on but ultimately came up short and were left facing the prospect of a play-off to make the finals.
The draw for the play-off’s will take place on Friday.
