Pet owners are being encouraged to participate in Ireland’s Dog Census by an animal protection organisation, reports Breaking News.
Both those who currently own a dog and people who adore dogs but do not own one can answer the brief quiz created by Dogs Trust.
The nonprofit organisation seeks to get further insight into how challenges such as living expenses and housing shortages impact dogs and their carers, reports Breaking News.
According to Dogs Trust, this will enable them to better understand dog owners’ challenges and offer suggestions that will be beneficial to them.
More than ten percent of respondents to a recent charity poll said they had thought about giving up their dog, reports Breaking News.
In 2024, 2,366 requests to turn in dogs for adoption were received by Dogs Trust.
Paulina Padlo, communications manager at Dogs Trust Ireland, said: “Ireland’s Dog Census is a first of its kind initiative that can help us shape the campaigns, services and support we offer. Sadly, Ireland is still in the midst of a dog crisis, and we’re seeing hundreds of surrender and abandonment cases every month. Dog welfare is an ever-changing landscape and having the most up-to-date and accurate information about the lives of our canine companions can go a long way in helping us to help them. We’re asking dog owners and dog lovers alike to tell us about the furry friends in their lives so that we can help every dog live life to the fullest,” reports Breaking News.
