Irish coast guard rescues 15 students who got into difficulties at sea off the Donegal coast

Fifteen young students had a lucky escape earlier today, after getting into difficulties in the water off the Donegal coast.

The incident unfolded at Magheraroarty Beach in Co Donegal this afternoon.

It is understood that the youngsters, who were all attending a local Gaeltacht college, got into difficulties at the beach. Emergency services and a local fishing boat helped to rescue the students, some of which spent a considerable amount of time in the water.

Ten people were taken to Letterkenny hospital, though none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
