Irish households are getting €125 cost of living payment in January with no social welfare benefit needed

In the upcoming weeks, every household in Ireland will receive a cost-of-living payment of €125, which will be provided without the requirement for social assistance applications or benefits, reports The Mirror.

This program is a component of the government’s energy credit program, which was unveiled in Budget 2025 and is intended to alleviate financial strains. It will help Ireland’s 2.25 million projected residential energy account holders.

In two payments, the program offers a total of €250 in energy credits. In October, Paschal Donohoe, Minister of Public Expenditure, verified the information, saying: “Budget 2025 will include an energy credit of €250 for all households. This will be paid in two equal payments,” reports The Mirror.

The second installment will now be automatically applied to power bills this month after the initial payment of €125 was made prior to Christmas.

Families won’t have to get in touch with their electrical provider or submit an application, reports The Mirror.

Who qualifies?

The payments are available to all residential electrical account holders, including pay-as-you-go users. The plan won’t be put to the test, reports The Mirror.

How to use

There won’t be anything for you to do. Account holders will have the money automatically deducted from their bill, and households are not required to ask for the payment, tm

When is the money going to be paid?

Before Christmas, households received their first €125 off their energy bills; this month, they will receive their second.

How much cash will I receive?

Customers will see €125 shown as a credit line item on their invoices, reports The Mirror.
