Imagine opening up your first water bill, all that bottled up anticipation quite literally spilling over, only to find out that you owe the utility €1,000 euro.
Well, that’s what happened to some 150 customers, who have been charged that amount for three months worth of water because of leaks.
The much hated utility has said however that these customers will not have to pay such exorbitant amount because of capped charges. The amounts due are actually between €39 and €65 for the quarter.
Irish Water released a statement today saying that it has began its first fix scheme. According to the company, over 30,000 leaks have been detected, and 2,500 users have been contacted so they can avail of a free leak investigation.
