There are reports this afternoon that a 25-year old Irish woman has sustained serious injuries after being beaten with a motorcycle chain lock while on holidays in the southern French town of Avignon.
It is understood that three men assaulted the woman as she was returning to her accommodation in the city, at around 6.30am yesterday morning.
The young woman was hit with a chain and required hospitalization due to serious facial injuries.
The victim said she did not know her attackers. Local authorities are attempting to establish a motive for the attack.
Police are trying to establish a motive for the attack.
