An Irishman has sadly passed away whilst on a expedition on Mount Elbrus, the Department of Foreign Affairs have confirmed.
It is understood the man who has been named as Alan Mahon, from Kildangan, Co Kildare, died whilst descending the mountain with ten other climbers.
Authorities say the team which included five other Irish people were discovered 5,250m above altitude following a widespread search operation.
The Department of Foreign Affairs say they have been made aware of the incident and are currently providing consular assistance.
