The so-called ISIS bride Lisa Smith has renewed her plea to be rescued and brought home to Ireland.

Ms. Smith, who is originally from Dundalk in Co. Louth, is currently being detained at a prison facility in Baghouz, Syria. She was recently interviewed by CNN reporters, and she took the opportunity to ask the Irish Government to rescue her and her young daughter.

The former Defence Forces member converted to Islam and married a man of Muslim faith. After the breakdown of that marriage in 2015, she traveled to Syria and married an ISIS fighter of British origin, who is believed to have been killed in action earlier this year.

The demise of ISIS meant that many supporters and sympathizers of the terrorist organization were rounded up and moved into camps in northern Syria.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has publicly showed support for Ms. Smith’s plight, saying that ‘she has the right to return to Ireland.”
