Israel attacked Gaza today, killing families in their homes, even as Washington sent an emissary to encourage its ally to better protect against civilian casualties in the war against Hamas militants, reports RTE.
The war, which has lasted for more than two months, is currently raging across the Palestinian enclave, resulting in a humanitarian disaster that has no end in sight.
“It will last more than several months – but we will win and we will destroy them,” Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said, reports RTE.
In Rafah, on the southern edge of Gaza, people wept at a mortuary near bodies wrapped in bloody shrouds, among people in makeshift tents.
Residents searched through the rubble of neighbouring homes in Abu Dhabi and the Ashur family, where Gaza health authorities said 26 people had died.
Neighbour Fadel Shaban rushed to the area after the bombing.
“It was difficult because of the dust and people’s screams,” he said. “This is a safe camp, there is nothing here, the children play soccer in the street,” reports RTE.
