Cillian Flaherty, a young participant on Ireland’s Fittest Family, passed away earlier this week, and his grieving older brother called him his “best friend,” reports The Mirror.
The event was cancelled when the 15-year-old passed away unexpectedly at his Mulhuddart, North Dublin, home on Monday morning, leaving everyone in shock.
Kian Flaherty, holding back tears, told the crowded Church of St. Philip the Apostle that he and his younger brother used to argue a lot but always ended up getting back together.
He said: “We were the best of friends. No matter how many fights we had, we just forgot about them and got on with life 10 minutes later. I’m going to miss coming home from work and asking you what the poa is — for anyone doesn’t know poa; it’s the plan of action… and all he used to say is, “I’ll just go with the flow, bro,” reports The Mirror.
“I love you, kid,” he said, trying not to cry. Take care of all of us and rest in paradise. It’s “see ya later,” not “goodbye.”
With blue balloons in the church for the mass, Cillian’s distraught family, who had asked that blue be worn to the ceremony, decided on a blue casket for the adolescent, reports The Mirror.
In order to demonstrate his love for his family, presents were presented, including his football shirt, his player of the year award, his phone, which was “never out of his hand,” and a family portrait.
Cillian, a gifted football player, was a third-year student at Blakestown Community School in West Dublin, reports The Mirror.
