Joaquin Phoenix and his actress fiancee Rooney Mara have named their baby son River after the Joker star’s late brother, according to a filmmaker colleague.
The Guardian reports that director Victor Kossakovsky announced the news at the premiere of a film he and Phoenix had collaborated on at the Zurich Film Festival.
River Phoenix was an iconic youthful actor who rose to fame in the late 80s and early 90s for his acclaimed roles in films such as coming of age classic ‘Stand by Me’ and indie cult success ‘My Own Private Idaho’. He tragically died of a drug overdose in 1993, aged just 23.
His brother Joaquin is currently a major Hollywood star, who won an Oscar last year for his leading role in the Joker. Rooney Mara, his fiancee, is best known for playing Lisbeth Sander in the US adaptation of Swedish crime bestseller ‘the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ in 2011.
