
Martin talks with the Egyptian FM on the Middle East issue, reports RTE.
While in New York for the UN General Assembly, Tánaiste Micheál Martin met with Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s recently appointed foreign minister.
He said that they talked about the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the intensifying strikes in Lebanon.
Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, the president of Turkey, has criticised the UN for its silence towards Gaza, reports RTE.
Since the conflict began in October of last year, he said the UN General Assembly, Gaza had become the “largest children’s and women’s cemetery in the world.”
He said: “Not only children but also the UN system is dying in Gaza. The truth, the values that the West claims to defend are dying … I ask openly: Hey human rights organisations, aren’t those in Gaza and West Bank human beings?” reports RTE.
Mr. ErdoÄŸan declared that a “alliance of humanity” “must be stopped” and that he supports the people of Lebanon who are being targeted by Israel.
“Heavy bombing” is being carried out in Lebanon, according to IDF
According to the Israeli military, “extensive strikes” are being carried out against Hezbollah sites in Lebanon at the moment.
It did not give more information right away, reports RTE.
Ibrahim Muhammad Qabisi, the commander of Hezbollah, was killed in a hit on Beirut today, according to confirmation from the Israeli military.
Qabisi, who Israel said was in command of Hezbollah’s rocket and missile force, perished during an Israeli fighter jet raid on Dahiyeh, the capital of Lebanon.
The Israeli military released a statement after Qabisi and other key leaders of Hezbollah’s missile and rocket force were hit, reports RTE.
