It has emerged today that the security hatch at the entrance at the Department of Finance cost over €1.4 million.
Chairman of the Office of Public Works John Conlon revealed the enormous figure at the Oireachtas Finance Committee, while talking about the disgraceful bike shelter at Leinster House, RTE reports.
Conlon said the security hatch followed an extensive consultation with gardaí and includes mechanical, electrical and security considerations – utterly farcical in many people’s eyes.
RTE reports that the cost also includes ventilation, CCTV and other costs “there was a huge security element”, he said.
