Just don’t do it! HSE boss warns public of the dangers of hugging loved ones this Christmas

It’s been an incredibly difficult time for people being apart from each other this year, especially loved ones who they couldn’t see for days, weeks and even months.

Christmas is a time for people to come together and enjoy themselves with those they love, but Dr Tony Holohan and his HSE and NPHET team have warned the public of having too much fun claiming that case numbers will rise drastically again.

Whether you’ve seen loved ones this year or not, medical chiefs are advising that people stay well apart and don’t dream of hugging the ones that they care the most about over the festive season.

The Chief Executive of the HSE Paul Reid has urged people to keep their guard over Christmas especially when they are visiting family and friends.

Reid who warned of the risks of hugging said people should refrain from physical contact as it poses a real risk.

The HSE chief’s comments come as he said that the health service is concerned about intergenerational meetings.

Reid said that the public could be spared from further lockdowns in the new year if people take the necessary precautions this Christmas.
