In order for the scores of hostages held by the terrorists in Gaza to be freed, Vice President Kamala Harris said she pushed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to establish a ceasefire agreement with Hamas, reports Breaking News.

In addition to affirming Israel’s right to self-defence after nine months of conflict, Ms. Harris said she had a “frank and constructive” discussion with Mr. Netanyahu during which she highlighted her serious concerns about the “dire” humanitarian situation in Gaza as well as the high death toll there.

With all eyes on the presumed Democratic presidential contender, Ms. Harris essentially restated the long-standing argument of President Joe Biden—that there has to be an end to the horrific conflict in Gaza, where over 39,000 Palestinians have lost their lives—in her remarks, reports Breaking News.

Just one day after Mr. Netanyahu delivered a heated speech to the US Congress in which he justified the war, declared “total victory” against Hamas, and made almost no mention of ceasefire discussions, she nevertheless struck a more aggressive tone regarding the gravity of the situation.

Shortly after meeting Mr. Netanyahu, Ms. Harris told reporters, “There has been hopeful movement in the talks to secure an agreement on this deal.” “And it’s time to close this deal, as I just informed Prime Minister Netanyahu,” reports Breaking News.

Mr. Biden, who has also been urging Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement on a US-backed, three-phase plan to free the remaining captives and create a long-term peace, spoke separately with Mr. Netanyahu earlier in the day.

Following her conversation with Mr. Netanyahu, Ms. Harris stated that there is more to Israel’s conflict in Gaza than just picking sides to support.

She said that “the conversation is binary too often when the reality is anything but,” reports Breaking News.

Ms. Harris denounced Hamas’ violence as well.

John Kirby, the White House’s national security spokesperson, restated the administration’s stance that the terrorist organisation that murdered almost 1200 Palestinians on October 7 and abducted 250 Israelis is ultimately to blame for Gaza’s misery and has to make peace with Israel, reports Breaking News.
