British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that anybody engaged in violent acts against immigrants would face the “full force of the law” as pressure mounts on the government to put an end to the worst riots the country has seen in 13 years, reports RTE.
The Prime Minister vowed to “face the full force of the law” for anyone responsible for disturbance and denounced an attack on a hotel in Rotherham that was sheltering asylum seekers in a televised speech to the country.
Speaking from Downing Street, Mr. Starmer hinted that individuals who were “whipping up this action online and then running away themselves,” as well as rioters who took to the streets, would pay a price, reports RTE.
In the meanwhile, the UK Home Office declared that mosques will receive increased security as part of a new “rapid response process” intended to address the possibility of more assaults on houses of worship as soon as possible.
“People in this country have a right to be safe, and yet we’ve seen Muslim communities targeted, attacks on mosques. Other minority communities singled out, Nazi salutes in the street, attacks on the police, wanton violence alongside racist rhetoric, so no, I won’t shy away from calling it what it is: far-right thuggery.”” the UK prime minister said, reports RTE.
