Kilkenny CBD shop raided by Gardai as Shop owner demands law to be changed

According to Newstalk, a shop in Kilkenny City selling cannabidiol compounds also known as CBD was raided this week.

JP O’Brien, co-owner of The Little Collins CBD dispensary in Kilkenny and Galway says says Ireland’s laws on the sale of CBD products must be changed.

This is the fourth time Mr O’Brien’s shop has been raided in the past two and a half years.

A cannabis plant is made up of two main players: CBD and THC. “CBD is the non-psychoactive portion of the plant
The products allegedly sold contain trace amounts of the psychoactive THC, under 0.2%.

In Ireland, if CBD products contain THC in any quantities, they are considered controlled drugs, meaning they are banned.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said: “Whilst there is no legal exemption for CBD products containing any amount of THC, it is envisaged legislation will be amended in the future to exempt CBD-based products containing trace amounts of THC at levels not greater than 0.3%.”

The Department of Health said it could not comment on the matter due to the ongoing court case.
