The La Soufriere volcano has erupted in St Vincent’s Island, prompting an emergency evacuation of thousands of people.
There had been a lot of seismic activity in the area in recent days, and the volcano is now in an ‘explosive state’, with plumes of smoke and ash up to five miles high.
It is understood that the nearby islands of St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua, and Grenada are ready to take in the evacuees.
La soufriere last erupted in 1979.
