Late Ronaldo double denies Ireland in Portugal




The Republic of Ireland have been beaten 2-1 by Portugal in their World Cup qualifier despite a remarkable performance.

In what would have been a remarkable victory Ireland Ronaldo snatched the points at the death with a quick fire double.

Ireland who took an unexpected leas through John Egan on the stroke of half time.

However despite a resolute defensive performance, Ronaldo who may have found himself lucky to be on the pitch after striking out at O’Shea after Portugal were awarded a penalty in the first half – snatched a late equaliser on the 89th minute.

Ireland who were hanging on for draw at the end had their hearts broken after Ronaldo headed home the winner after the referee played a minute over the allocated 5 minutes added time.
