Latest figures reveal that the number of begging offences in Dublin city significantly rose in 2015

According to latest figures released by the Gardaí it is believed that the number of Begging offences in Dublin city centre rose in the year 2015.

The latest report from the Dublin Joint Policing Committee also shows a that begging offences dramatically rose by a massive 415% last year. Gardaí say the rise in crime from beggars coincides with the fact that were more homeless people in the city than ever before, they also say that a total of 2,717 begging offences were reported throughout 2015.

Gardai say they are doing everything they can to tackle the offence but the rise in cases is making it more difficult. They also say anyone caught begging in an aggressive or intimidating manner, will face a €500 fine or a month in prison.
