Local authorities in the city of New York have confirmed that one person has died, and 22 others have been injured, after a vehicle driven by an intoxicated man plowed through pedestrians in Times Square.
The driver has been identified as ex-Navy serviceman Richard Rojas, 26, who was apprehended at the scene. It is understood that Rojas has a history of drink driving, and had been arrested twice in the past for the same offence.
An 18 year old woman sadly died after being hit by the car. Four of the wounded sustained life-threatening injuries but are expected to survive.
The incident is not thought to be terror-related.
