In what can only be described as absolutely laughable at this stage, the cost of the new National Children’s Hospital could rise by a further €200 million.

The news comes after the chair of the board of the National Children’s Hospital, Fred Barry recently told the Public Accounts Committee that rising costs will occur due to construction inflation.

Mr Barry ,who outlined the construction costs of the new hospital also revealed that the project isn’t expected to be completed until 2022 due to delays this year.

At the time, Barry who defended his handling of the project told the committee that overall costs will go over budget by between €2million and €2.9million for the year 2019.

It is expected that the hospital will not be built remotely on time now as it was already 6 months behind schedule prior to covid.
