New York decides to close schools as Covid-19 cases continue to rise in the US

The Mayor of New York has confirmed that the city’s schools will close following a rise in Covid-19 cases.

Speaking on Wednesday Mayor Bill de Blasio confirmed that the city’s 1,800 public schools will be closed in an effort to stem the spread of the virus.

The news which will now see children being thought online comes after the city saw a 3% rise in the positivity rate over the last seven days.

It also comes as over 250,000 deaths have been reported across the US since the pandemic began in March.

Announcing the decision to shut schools de Blasio said that we must do everything we can to stop a second wave.
