‘Leaving Cert weather’ finally set to make an appearance after weekend washout

Persistent heavy rain that has drenched the country in recent days is expected to continue through the weekend – but Met Éireann has now identified when Ireland can finally expect the arrival of summer-like weather, reports The Mirror.

Over the past week, the country has experienced a prolonged stretch of poor weather, with nearly every county facing thunderstorm and rain alerts due to intense downpours and sporadic lightning strikes.

Unfortunately, the wet and breezy conditions will not ease this weekend, with further bouts of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms predicted for both Friday and Saturday, reports The Mirror.

However, a significant shift is on the horizon, as Met Éireann has announced that high pressure will gradually settle over Ireland next week. This development is expected to bring a warm and sunny spell, featuring clear skies and temperatures climbing to a pleasant 22°C.

Providing the latest forecast, a Met Éireann representative stated: “Showery rain will clear to the north this morning, clearing from north Ulster by around lunchtime. It will then be a bright day nationwide with a mix of sunshine and scattered showers, some heavy, reports The Mirror.

“A few thundery downpours may develop in parts of the southwest. Highest temperatures of 17 to 21 degrees with mostly moderate southerly winds.

“There’ll be good dry and clear spells in the north and east early tonight but showers in the south and west will become widespread across the country during the night. Some of the showers will be heavy and possibly thundery in nature. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in light easterly or variable winds,” reports The Mirror.

Saturday will start off mostly cloudy, bringing showers and more prolonged rain. In the afternoon, clouds may lift, particularly in southern areas, letting through some sunshine. However, this sun could trigger further showers, with some likely to be intense and thundery. Daytime temperatures will range from 14 to 18 degrees with moderate westerly winds.

Saturday night will see showers clearing from the east and northeast, giving much of the country a brief spell of dry and clear weather. However, cloud cover will return from the west later in the night, bringing more scattered showers across Ireland, reports The Mirror.

Sunday will begin mostly overcast with scattered showers moving in from the west. Conditions are expected to brighten up later in the day. Temperatures will peak between 15 and 18 degrees, accompanied by moderate west to southwest breezes. Sunday night should be mostly dry, aside from a few showers in the northwest. Lowest temperatures will dip to 8 to 11 degrees, coolest in the south and southeast under clear skies.

Monday is shaping up to be a largely dry day with a mix of sunshine and cloud cover. Temperatures will range from 17 to 22 degrees, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, reports The Mirror.

Monday night will see rain and drizzle moving in from the Atlantic, affecting some western and northern counties. Temperatures will fall to between 10 and 13 degrees in moderate southwest winds.

By Tuesday, the light rain and drizzle will move southward in the morning, making way for a dry day with sunny intervals. Temperatures are expected to range from 16 to 21 degrees in moderate westerly breezes, reports The Mirror.
