Leo Varadkar: I regret that we didn’t do more sooner in care homes

What’s happening in Irish care homes is utterly disgraceful. Leo Varadkar and Simon Harris appear to be chasing their tails in relation to the disaster that’s happening in such homes from coronavirus.

Speaking on last night’s Prime Time, Varadkar said that not enough testing was done and that other countries aren’t even counting the number of deaths.

He said that it was out of their control, there was a lack of testing facilities. He said that WHO said to test those who have symptoms and that we didn’t know a number of weeks ago that it could present as vomiting or diarrhoea.

The reality of this is that you cannot prioritise everything, so they decided to prioritise those who had symptoms and health care workers too.

He said that the government can now focus on those who outside healthcare and can increase the number of tests being provided.
