Leo Varadkar: We hope we can unwind the restrictions on May 5th but we cannot guarantee it

It’s going to be another couple of weeks before we know the true extent of what the covid-19’s restrictions will bring. However there does seem to be light at the end of the tunnel with the government provisionally putting the date of May the 5th on hold.

People may be getting fed up being stuck in and not able to go out and enjoy the sunshine, but the government says that people may get used to it for some time to come.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar thanked the people of Ireland for all that they’ve done so far but said that we need to do more to help the health workers.

Varadkar said that because of the measures, we have slowed the spread of the virus considerably but unfortunately we have not stopped its spread. He said that we cannot be complacent.

The restrictions will be extended for a further three weeks until at least Tuesday May 5th but that there’s no guarantee that the measures will be lifted at that stage.

Varadkar sounded quite ominous in relation to lifting the restrictions saying that when it happens, it’ll be very slow and they may even have to reinstated if coronavirus started to spread again.
