Lifting Covid-19 restrictions looking very unlikely as Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan says he would recommend not to lift restrictions at this present time

The prospect Covid-19 restrictions being lifted in May 5th is looking very slim as the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan has said that he would recommend not to lift restrictions given the latest numbers.

Speaking during the National Public Health Emergency Team briefing, Dr Holohan said that although Ireland has made progress in restricting the spread of the virus, we haven’t gotten to a point where we’ve seen the required drop in the number of those cases.

The Chief Medical Officer said that if we were to go by current numbers we would not recommend the lifting of restrictions next week as the number of hospitalisations combined with the number of people in ICU units is still too high.

Dr Holohan’s comments come as there were 31 deaths and a further 376 cases on Wednesday.
