The trial of Lisa Smith is ongoing in the Special Criminal Court and she has said that she did not support the Islamic State militant group and feels that she was led astray.

According to RTE, she said that she had made a mistake in going to Syria and was scared during the bombings.  The 39-year-old is pleading not guilty to charges of financing terrorism of being a member of ISIS.

Ms Smith gave an interview to Gardai in December 2019 and the 100-page document relating to that document was read out at her trial.

She said that she was mistreated in Syria and agreed to marry a man who she didn’t really want to and was very badly mistreated.  She said that she was not allowed to read or watched videos.  After ending up in a camp, she said that the situation was terrible and she does not want to go back.

Ms. Smith has pleaded not guilty to the charges against her and the trial continues.
