Luas dispute: Transdev agrees to scrap plans to provide a bus service on St. Patrick’s Day

In what’s possibly the first breakthrough in the deadlocked negotiations between the Luas management company, Transdev, and the tram drivers, the company has agreed to scrap its plans to organize an alternative bus service on St. Patrick’s Day.

Such move comes on the eve of further talks between the two parties at the Workplace Relations Commission (WRC).

The plans to arrange buses to ferry people to and from the city centre on St. Patrick’s Day had come under fierce criticism from Siptu and also from political quarters at the Anti-Austerity Alliance party. The plans were described as “scab labour”.

As it stands, Luas drivers are due to strike on St Patrick’s Day, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, and also on the 2, 3, 23 and 24 of April.
