Major concerns as 30-year fracking contract set to start on the island of Ireland

The threat of fracking looms again as a new 30 year petroleum licence is under consideration by the department of economy in the north. ‘Hydraulic fracturing is a highly controversial technique for producing oil and gas with very real and well documented environmental and health impacts.’ Scientific reports suggest that fracking has links to higher cases of cancer, poses serious threat to pregnant women as well as having significant impacts on the climate, air pollution and recent reports of radioactivity.

The proposed licence area in Fermamagh borders Donegal, Leitrim, Cavan and Monaghan and if given a licence could have serious effects on these areas and amenities in the Republic. Locals in Belcoo are mystified how Tamboran are being let back into the process, having lost their previous licence due to failure to complete their work programme.

Objections are urged to be in before the 31st July when the consultation closes.
There is an online application which helps in the submission of responses available at (FOE.ie site info here).
