Man (20s) faces trial in Dublin over alleged rape in student accommodation campus

A man who is charged with sexually assaulting a female in a Dublin dorm has been released on bond while a book of evidence is being prepared, reports Breaking News.

The man, in his 20s, turned up before Dublin District Court on Saturday after the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered that he be prosecuted for the alleged crime that happened a year ago. His identity cannot be revealed for legal reasons.

Reporting limits are in place, according to Judge William Aylmer, to protect the complainant’s and the accused’s identities.

The accused did not speak to the judge. The individual responded to the charge, according to the arresting garda, by saying, “I deny the allegation,” reports Breaking News.

He will stand trial in the Central Criminal Court on an indictment, per the DPP’s directive.

The accused did not reside at the address specified in the accusation, the court observed.

Judge Aylmer gave the man instructions to follow and to return in September so that the prosecution’s book of evidence could be served upon him and a return for trial order could be granted, reports Breaking News.

Bail was granted without objection, but with conditions attached: he had to provide seven days’ notice if he was going to be outside the State, notify the gardaí of any address changes, and refrain from contacting the alleged injured person or witnesses.

The court did not require any more proof in relation to the claim at this point in the proceedings, reports Breaking News.
