Man arrested after woman found dead onboard a ferry in Rosslare

Authorities have apprehended a man linked to the death of a woman aboard a ferry that arrived at Rosslare Europort this evening. According to Gardaí, a “serious incident” unfolded on the vessel, involving a small group of acquaintances in a confined area.
The woman was declared deceased at the scene after a confrontation, though Gardaí are still working to piece together the full details of the event. They believe it involved a limited number of individuals who were known to each other.
Roughly 30 minutes before the ferry docked, the captain issued an emergency call. Upon arrival from Fishguard at 5:30 p.m., the ship was met by emergency services and a significant Garda presence. The Stena Nordic remains held at the port, with its return trip cancelled. Passengers awaiting departure were rerouted to an Irish Ferries vessel bound for Pembroke.
Gardaí are treating the woman’s death as suspicious and are awaiting post-mortem results to clarify the cause. The Office of the State Pathologist and the local coroner have been informed, and the scene is secured for technical and forensic analysis.
At present, Gardaí report no concerns for public safety. The suspect was arrested on the ship and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a nearby Garda station, where he can be questioned for up to 24 hours.
As part of the investigation, all passengers and crew from the ferry, which originated in Fishguard, Wales, will be interviewed.
