A 28-year-old man who was convicted of murdering British Backpacker Grace Millane, has been sentenced to life in prison.
According to The Sydney Morning Hearld, the unnamed man was given the life sentence at a court in Auckland on Friday.
The man who was found guilty of murder last November will not be entitled to apply for parole for 17 years.
Grace who was travelling through New Zealand on a year long tour was tragically found dead in December 2018.
It is believed that Millane had met the man through Tinder and had drinks before returning to his hotel room.
The prosecution have since argued that the man strangled Grace before putting her body in a suitcase, and burying her in a shallow grave in Waitakere Ranges forest.
However the defence have argued that both the accused and Grace engaged in consensual erotic choking that went too far.
